Vitamin B12, L-Carnitine, and Immunity Boost Injections: What They Actually Do
If you've searched “vitamin injections Las Vegas,” “B12 shots Las Vegas,” or “immunity support Henderson,” you're far from alone — and you've probably noticed how much marketing noise surrounds these treatments. At Blanqa Medspa, Vitamin B12, L-Carnitine, and Immunity Boost injections are among our most requested Wellness Treatments. They're also some of the most misunderstood. As a nurse practitioner, I'd rather give you an honest picture of what the research actually supports than a sales pitch — so here's what each of these injections can realistically do, who tends to benefit most, and where the evidence runs thinner than the marketing implies.
Why These Injections Are So Popular Right Now
Quick, walk-in wellness treatments have become a genuine trend across Henderson and Las Vegas, and it's easy to see why: they take a few minutes, require no downtime, and feel like a proactive step toward feeling better. But “popular” and “proven” aren't the same thing. Each of these three injections has a different evidence base — some strong for specific groups of people, some much weaker than the marketing around them suggests. Let's take them one at a time.
Vitamin B12: Who Actually Benefits
Vitamin B12 is essential for red blood cell production and nerve function, and a true deficiency can cause real fatigue, brain fog, and even tingling or numbness. The important question isn't whether B12 matters — it's whether you're actually low. Certain groups are genuinely more likely to be:
• Vegans and vegetarians, since B12 occurs almost exclusively in animal products
• Adults over 50, because reduced stomach acid impairs B12 absorption from food
• People taking metformin or long-term acid-reducing medications (PPIs, H2 blockers)
• People with a history of gastric bypass or other conditions affecting GI absorption
• People with pernicious anemia, an autoimmune condition that blocks B12 absorption
If you fall into one of these categories, correcting a genuine deficiency can meaningfully improve energy, mood, and cognitive symptoms. If your levels are already normal, current research doesn't show a reliable energy boost from extra B12 — more isn't better once you're replete, it just becomes very expensive urine.
L-Carnitine: What It Can (and Can't) Do
L-Carnitine is often marketed as a fat-burning, energy-boosting shot, but the honest picture is more nuanced than that framing suggests.
• Your body already produces roughly 11–34 mg of carnitine per day from two amino acids (lysine and methionine), and your kidneys reabsorb about 95% of it — supplementation generally isn't necessary for people with healthy kidney function, including strict vegetarians and vegans.
• In athletes, controlled research shows L-carnitine supplementation can meaningfully lower post-exercise blood lactate and modestly reduce fatigue markers during aerobic and anaerobic training.
• Evidence for everyday “energy” or weight-loss claims outside of a structured athletic training context is considerably weaker than the marketing implies.
In short: if you're actively training and pushing your body hard, L-Carnitine has a reasonable evidence base for supporting recovery. As a general daily energy fix, the science is much less convincing.
Immunity Boost Injections: What the Evidence Says
Immunity-support injections at medspas typically combine ingredients like vitamin C, zinc, and B-vitamins — nutrients with a genuine, if modest, research base around immune function and cold symptoms.
• Vitamin C: a Cochrane meta-analysis of dozens of trials found that routine vitamin C didn't reduce how often people caught colds in the general population, but modestly shortened cold duration — about 8% in adults and 14% in children — and roughly halved cold risk specifically in people under extreme physical stress, such as marathon runners and skiers.
• Zinc: a 2024 Cochrane review of 34 trials found little to no benefit for preventing colds, low-certainty evidence for shortening an existing cold by about two days, and a real, documented risk of side effects like taste changes and stomach upset
The honest takeaway: these ingredients are best thought of as supportive care during a cold or a high-stress, high-exposure stretch — not a guarantee you won't get sick.
What the Research Shows
Here's a closer look at the specific studies behind the guidance above:
• Markun et al. (2021, Nutrients) — a systematic review, meta-analysis, and meta-regression of 16 RCTs and 6,276 participants found too little dedicated fatigue data to draw a firm meta-analytic conclusion about B12 and energy in people without documented deficiency, in contrast to common marketing claims.
• A 2025 systematic review and meta-analysis (Frontiers in Pharmacology, 16 studies, 6,098 participants) found no statistically significant difference between oral, sublingual, and intramuscular B12 for raising blood B12 levels (p = 0.270) — suggesting consistent absorption matters more than the injection itself for most people.
• A systematic review and meta-analysis (Progress in Nutrition) found L-Carnitine supplementation significantly lowered post-exercise blood lactate (−0.65 mmol/L, p < 0.001) and improved fatigue and performance markers across aerobic and anaerobic exercise in trained and untrained participants.
• Hemilä & Chalker's Cochrane review of vitamin C for the common cold found no reduction in cold incidence in the general population, an 8% shorter duration in adults, and roughly half the cold risk in 5 trials (598 participants) under extreme physical stress.
• A 2024 Cochrane review of zinc for the common cold (34 trials, 8,526 participants) found little preventive benefit, low-certainty evidence for a ~2-day reduction in duration, and a documented risk of non-serious side effects.
Who's a Good Candidate, and What to Expect
• Best candidates: people with a likely or documented B12 deficiency (vegan/vegetarian diet, age 50+, GI conditions, metformin or PPI use), athletes in a heavy training block (L-Carnitine), or anyone wanting supportive care during a high-stress or high-exposure season (Immunity Boost).
• Not a substitute for: medical evaluation of persistent fatigue, unexplained weight changes, or recurrent infections — those deserve lab work and a real diagnosis, not guesswork.
• What to expect: the injection itself takes about 5–10 minutes. If you weren't deficient to begin with, most people notice little to no biochemical difference; when a benefit is present, it's typically subtle and short-term rather than dramatic — which is exactly why we start with a conversation about your history before recommending anything.
